Culross : Preview

Gary and I went to Culross, Fife on Sunday for a day trip. It's a very pretty village at the Firth of Forth and I will post more about it soon - as soon as I had time to work on the other pictures ;) It was a great day to enjoy the Spring atmosphere. Amazing how everything seems brighter and more cheerful in nice weather.

I thought I try something a bit different today and write about two methods I often employ when taking pictures while out and about. Hope you enjoy reading...

The picture on the left shows lens flare, which is caused by the sun reflecting off the lens. I usually try to find somewhere the light breaks off naturally - like a tree, house, statue - include this in the photo, and shoot into the sun. You have to be careful not to look directly into the sun... This type of photo is best taken with a DSLR camera as you can set the exposure manually.

The picture on the right is a detail shot which I also love to take. I usually place the main object slightly off centre and use selective focus and a wide aperture like F4. It throws the background nicely out of focus and draws the eye to the main object.
